I first started with them when I was offered a free shared hosting account in 2009.

I love them so much that I stay – as a paying customer.

A decade later today, I use the VPS InMotion hosting package and I am sure I have been digging around almost every aspect of their resources at some time or another for years.

1. Advantages of InMotion Hosting

Excellent hosting performance: Uptime> 1%, TTFB ~ 99.95ms

Of the web hosting providers I have encountered so far, InMotion Hosting’s servers are some of the providers. top level hosting service in the budget catalog. Their uptime is mostly higher than the industry standard of 99.95%.

More importantly, I’ve tested performance from multiple locations, all of which can boast of Time to First Byte (TTFB) below 450ms.

The evidence, however, is in the pudding as they say. Let’s take a look at the test results I’ve compiled on InMotion Hosting over the years since 2013.

There is obviously a difference between free and paid SSL, but for most of us, the free version is good. To activate your free SSL (VPS or dedicated hosting user), look for the option in your WHM.

Unfortunately, InMotion Hosting does not support automatic installation of Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates (unlike Siteground or A2 Hosting). You are granted root access and you must install it yourself.

To activate your free SSL option, log in to your Account Management Portal (AMP).

Click “On / Off” to turn on your free SSL. Yes, it is really simple.

When running a website, one thing you always have to keep in mind is room to expand. You can get 50 hits a day today, but in a year or two it could easily exceed 1,000 or so daily, probably more.

Thankfully, InMotion Hosting has a lot of plans that you can upgrade gradually as you grow. There is also the option to switch to VPS or a dedicated hosting plan if you feel the sharing plan is too restrictive for you.

Decide whether you prefer to share, VPS or host your own server.

For those who need server root access or special requirements like custom software, you can consider VPS hosting to get started.

For others, it’s probably one of those sharing plans that will do well for you (usually bought on the lowest floor first).

InMotion has three different levels of Business Class Hosting – Launch, Power and Pro.

While similar in nature, each higher tier provides more features, such as multiple auxiliary domains, parked domains or something else. The most important thing to note is the number of sites each package supports – if you only need to run one site, just go with Launch, the lowest package.

Remember, these packages can be upgraded at any time, all you need to do is recharge the price difference.

Disadvantages of InMotion Hosting

Although InMotion is one of the few people who have received a full five star rating from me, I still have to admit that nothing is perfect.

Let me share with you some not encouraging points about them.
1. After first registration, prices increase

When you only log in with InMotion Hosting, that’s what I call the honeymoon period. You pay the cut fee and both you and your landlord are happy. Unfortunately, that only extends your first contract period. When it’s time to renew, you will be faced with a full fee.

This means that during the 24-month grace period, you pay $ 7.99 / 9.99 / 15.99 per month depending on the plan.

What’s more sad is that this is not all about InMotion Hosting and is essentially an industry benchmark. The practice has received many complaints over the years.

If this is something you REALLY object to, move to a server that doesn’t do this instead, such as Interserver .
2. No activation of instant accounts

To prevent fraud, InMotion does not perform account activation immediately. That means you need to be verified by phone before they can activate your account – a minor inconvenience for people living outside the United States, like me.

I am in Malaysia, which is on the opposite side of the globe from the USA. Due to the time gap and poor call quality sometimes, it can be a real mess.
3. Server location only in the US

InMotion Hosting users are limited to hosting their website in the United States only. You can choose between Los Angeles (West) or Washington DC (East) when you order your plan – but that’s it. For advanced users, you will need a content delivery network (CDN) or go with other hosting companies (e.g. Hostinger, support for 8 server locations in the United States, EU and Asia. ).
